NEW 7 week session! April 30 - June 13
$230/one day per week,
$445/two days per week
This program is filled with age-appropriate activities that encourage exploration and nurture farm-based learning. Our mornings are spent outside learning about the plant & animal life in the gardens and woods at Broadturn Farm. The program is structured with activities, stories and songs that revolve around the topic of the week, such as ‘Fall on the Farm’, ‘Eggs’, ‘Insects’, or ‘In the Woods’. Children learn as they explore, play, sing, and dig in the dirt at the farm. This is a drop-off program and children must be potty trained. Adult to child ratio is 2 Adults per 8 Children. Children should bring a well-labeled snack, a filled water bottle, a change of clothes and be dressed appropriately for the often varied and unpredictable Maine weather.
9-9:15 Check-in and dig at the ‘digging hole’ or play on the balance beam as we wait for all of our friends to arrive.
9:15-9:30 Morning Greeting: Songs, stories, and picture board that introduce the topic of the day and our schedule.
9:30-10:15 Animal Chores: Slop the pigs, feed the chickens and check for eggs in the coop, say hello to the cows and give them a snack of fresh hay.
10:30-11:45 Activity: cooking projects, a walk in the woods to the stream, an exploration of insects in the field, craft projects, or a look at what’s growing in the greenhouse. These are just a few of the things that will occupy our time at the farm!
11:45-noon Time to say goodbye! Wrap up our daily activity and enjoy some supervised free play at the digging hole and balance beam as we wait for parents/guardians to pick up.
Our Lead Preschool Educator: Deb Justham
Deb holds a B.A. from the University of N.H. with dual majors in Elementary Education and Psychology. She has many years of experience working in the field of early childhood and loves to guide experiential activities and exploration with young children, promoting a sense of wonder about the world around us. She has raised goats and geese, grown and preserved her own food, and prefers being active outside exploring nature. This will be Deb's sixth season teaching our 3-6 year old farmers. Her favorite activity - scavenger hunts in the woods!
Please send a copy of your child's current immunization records to the farm prior to the first day of the program. Send to: Broadturn Farm, 388 Broadturn Rd., Scarborough, ME 04074.
